Why Experienced Technologists are So Critical for Cytogenetic Testing

Cytogenetic testing is not a simple process. Nor is it a process or profession to be taken lightly. The work of cytogenetic technologists carries with it a great responsibility to high quality analysis and unfaltering attention to detail. As such, only ASCP qualified, and experienced cytogenetic technologists are hired on staff at Virtual Scientific. In fact, our technologists have an average of 18 years in the cytogenetics field.

The American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certifications for laboratory technologists verify that individuals have the knowledge and experience to safely work in a laboratory setting. To qualify for this certification, candidates must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or biology coupled with clinical laboratory experience. This certification includes a combination of education, training, and experience.

Allie Johns, co-founder of Virtual Scientific is a strong proponent of higher education and training. She holds both CG (ASCP)CM and DLMCM through ASCP’s BOC, as well as a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology and a Masters in Computer Information Systems.

Gary Johns, president of Virtual Scientific, holds a degree in Electronic Engineering and co-founded the company with Allie after decades in the Information Technology industry. Together, they set out to create a better solution for clinical laboratories to meet their demands. Focused on high-quality technologists, top-notch analyses, and industry-leading TAT, the pair of cytogenetic consultants developed a flexible testing solution for outsourcing cytogenetic test cases, built in a virtual environment.

To further ensure guaranteed results, each case is analyzed by two certified cytogenetic technologists. Cases are then reviewed by a senior level technologist and/or supervisor. Prior to reporting the results, all cases are then subjected to a verification process to ensure accuracy.

Best of all, their unique process for cytogenetic testing is typically more cost-effective than hiring a staff member of your own and delivers some of the fastest TAT in the industry.
